Muito triste a despedida de Podolski do Colônia. A torcida dos Bodes tinha esperanças que o atacante conseguisse salvar o time do rebaixamento, mas mesmo com a boa atuação do camisa 10, a equipe foi goleada em casa pelo Bayern de Munique e está de volta à 2ª divisão da Bundesliga, de onde havia saído na temporada 2007/2008.
Os Bávaros entraram com o time praticamente completo na partida e não deram chances ao Köln. Thomas Müller (2), Robben e Geromel (contra) anotaram os gols do Bayern, com Novakovic descontando para os anfitriões: 4 a 1.

Antes mesmo do apito final, alguns torcedores do Colônia atearam fogo nas dependências do RheinEnergieStadion e a polícia teve que entrar em ação para conter os baderneiros, que também ameaçaram invadir o gramado para protestar.

O rebaixamento do Colônia só aconteceu porque o Hertha Berlim conseguiu vencer o Hoffenheim na capital alemã, 3 a 1, e vai decidir seu futuro na competição na disputa do playoff do descenso contra o 3º colocado da 2.Bundesliga – dias 10 e 15 de maio. O meia brasileiro Raffael marcou um dos tentos do Hertha.
Faltava também a definição de uma vaga na Liga Europa, e o Hannover confirmou sua classificação. Os Vermelhos saíram perdendo do já rebaixado Kaiserslautern, mas viraram em casa e vão para o torneio europeu.
E o campeão Borussia Dortmund, enfim, levantou a salva de prata. E foi em grande estilo, depois da goleada sobre o Freiburg por 4 a 0. O triunfo levou os Amarelos aos 81 pontos na tabela – o equivalente a um aproveitamento de 79% dos pontos – e deixa o time com a melhor campanha da história da Bundesliga, superando a do Bayern de 1972.
A 34ª e última rodada do Alemão não teve nenhum empate e contou com uma chuva de gols. Foram 35 tentos nas nove partidas que fecharam o torneio, uma excelente média de quase 4 gols por jogo.
